This book is extremely informative as it possesses contemporary photographers and examples of their work. A photographer who I found of great inspiration is Thomas Struth (1954) and his Paradise Series (1982) which is concerned with representing forests and jungles, whilst utilising tight framing and the isolation of the subject matter through composition contributes to what Struth states as,

‘Membranes for meditation’
(p105, Struth, Cotton)

Struth employs photography as an aid for evoking both internal dialogue and contemplation in the viewer. What I find interesting with Struth’s approach to his subject matter is that the locations where he records his photographs are not recognisable and there is something calming about this isolation.

WHY IS THIS WORK INSPIRING?

This work is inspiring as with photography the majority of the world has been photographed repeatedly therefore creating something different or unique becomes more challenging. I find it interesting to create a location with landscape photography which in reality does not exist, somewhere you cannot visit, as a means of escapism from the world and its realities.

With my photography work I would like to develop my interpretation on landscape appropriately, to evoke emotion or a response from the viewer whilst aiding and trying to understand expression with which I struggle to comprehend on a daily basis through verbal expression.
